It is a voracious predator of other snails, so it was introduced to Hawaii and several Polynesian islands to control the giant African snail population, but it ultimately drove other native snail species extinct. It is included on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s list of 100 most harmful invasive alien species in the world.
