Dark Paper Wasp, Black Polybia Wasp, Tropical Black Wasp or Black Social Wasp.

Size:

Weight: 23-35 mg (worker) / 40-45 mg (queen)

Length: 12 – 15 mm

Wingspan: 20 – 25 mm

Coloration:

Uniformly black or dark brownish-black, often with a slight metallic blue or violet sheen when seen in sunlight. Smoky dark brown or translucent grayish-black wings with a bluish or purplish iridescence depending on the angle of the light.

Life Span

1 – 3 months (worker) / 9 – 12 months (queen)
